La terra trema...:
(1) ... and Roger and Me: That there is nothing dishonourable in earning an honest living. That there is integrity in it. That there is frankly nothing braver.
(2) ... and Springtime in a Small Town: That place means home. That generations guard home. That it is not just a locality, but a continuity of history, family and blood.
(3) ... and Accattone: That poverty is terrible. That poverty is not romantic. That poverty is inescapable.
(4) ... and Rocco and His Brothers: That the family photograph is the centre of stability. That there will be one son who will leave. That every disintegration of a family is a tragedy.
(5) ... and Zatoichi (Takeshi Kitano, 2003): That female virginity can be traded not for sex but for a livelihood.
(6) ... and (how can we avoid this) 400 Blows: That living is not wilful. Not petulant. Not impulsive. That living is hard. And that I've been so lucky.
